nodebb-plugin-import - upgrading?
-
Hi,
I'm exploring the possibility of converting our 100,000+ post forum from phpBB 3.3.15 to nodeBB.
I previously converted the forum from another system (WebWiz IIRC) about 9 years ago and that was a big job so I was interested to see that NodeBB has a plugin that might handle a lot of the conversion for me.
However, I note from the GitHub Repository Readme for this plugin that it only supports NodeBB version 1.12.1 which is now quite a long way behind. Also, AFAICT the phpBB Exporter may not be up with the latest phpBB version.
What would be involved in upgrading nodebb-plugin-import to support nodeBB 4.x?

@linc@phpc.social thanks for your reply. I'm keen to try out your migration tool.
The phpBB instance I want to migrate is on a remote shared server. I have access to the file system there and I've downloaded a DB backup today.I run a Linux Mint box here at home that I was hoping to be able to run the migration on. I currently have the latest NBB running on this box (as installed via the
nodebb upgradecommand, so I expect it's not the bleeding edge from the "main" branch). On your Guide page you mention migrating to NBB running against a MongoDB database. I prefer to use Postgres and have my local NBB configured to run with a Postgres database. Is that going to be an issue?
Also, do I have to have phpBB running on my local machine or will a restored database and local files be enough?

@linc@phpc.social is there a step missing on your (Guide Page)[https://nitroporter.org/guide.html]? I followed the 3 installation steps:
- Install Docker Desktop on Mac, Windows, or Linux.
- Download the latest Nitro Porter & unzip it.
- Open a terminal window and from the new folder run: ./bin/setup.sh
But when I ran the ./bin/setup.sh it returned the following:
No config.php file found. Copying config-sample.php. no configuration file provided: not found What's next: Debug this Compose error with Gordon → docker ai "help me fix this compose error" Error response from daemon: No such container: porter-php What's next: Try Docker Debug for seamless, persistent debugging tools in any container or image → docker debug porter-php Learn more at https://docs.docker.com/go/debug-cli/ Error response from daemon: No such container: porter-php What's next: Try Docker Debug for seamless, persistent debugging tools in any container or image → docker debug porter-php Learn more at https://docs.docker.com/go/debug-cli/When I check the config.php that's been copied over, its settings are of course all empty. So I guess that's why it doesn't proceed with the rest of the setup.
I see further down on that page under the heading "Alternate install: Manual Localhost" there are instructions about copying over config-sample.php and editing it, but they don't seem to apply to the "Docker Desktop" installation

@rob-hills Currently it can only output Mongo for NodeBB.

@rob-hills Hey, the `main` branch has big changes vs the 4.1 release, so mix-and-matching will break things worse. I suggest deleting the copy of 4.1 you got from the zip release and downloading the current `main` with `composer install`, or wait for 5.0 to release, perhaps later this week.
