    Say goodbye to Linked Data Signatures

    https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2026/08/mastodon-4.7/

    We now support verifying FEP-8b32 Object Integrity Proofs using either eddsa-jcs-2022 or mldsa44-jcs-2024.

    The latest version of Mastodon can verify FEP-8b32 integrity proofs, which replace outdated Linked Data Signatures.

      @silverpill@mitra.social that's really great to hear, even if I am not there yet with NodeBB <img class="not-responsive emoji" src="https://activitypub.space/assets/plugins/nodebb-plugin-emoji/emoji/android/1f604.png?v=faddfb1abda" title="😄" />

      Nice work @mastodonengineering@mastodon.social

        @silverpill Mastodon implements something that's already implemented in Hubzilla, (streams) and Forte. Incredible.

          using either eddsa-jcs-2022 or mldsa44-jcs-2024

          Is this the first implementation of a post-quantum scheme?

          Right now eddsa-jcs-2022 is "RECOMMENDED" by FEP-8b32. Should ML-DSA be "RECOMMENDED" too?

            @fentiger I think this is the first implementation.

            FEP-8b32 mentions post-quantum sigs in the "Future work" section, but I don't want to RECOMMEND anything yet because Quantum-Resistant Cryptosuites v1.0 is a Working Draft.

              @jupiter_rowland@hub.netzgemeinde.eu and your point is?

              If they do it first subsequent implementations don't deserve recognition?

                @julian @jupiter_rowland Many of us thought that Mastodon devs will never implement anything that is not invented at Mastodon. But now there seems to be a change in attitude

                  @silverpill @julian In addition, more particularly, it appeared highly unlikely that Mastodon would ever implement something first implemented in the "Anti-Mastodons". The Fediverse server applications that are the farthest from Mastodon while still largely being capable of the same things as Mastodon. Mastodon's nemeses, so-to-speak. The stuff created by the guy who speaks out the most radically against what Mastodon does.
