From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word “Linux” in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

2. Topics not relating to veganism are subject to removal.
3. Posts are to be as accessible as practicable:
   • embedded images of text require alt-text
   • posts with an image of text should have a transcription in the body or alt-text
   • paywalled articles must have an accessible non-paywalled link;
   • use the original source whenever possible for a news article.
4. Content warnings are required for triggering content.
5. Bad-faith carnist rhetoric & anti-veganism are not allowed, as this is not a space to debate the merits of veganism. Anyone is welcome here, however, and so good-faith efforts to ask questions about veganism may be given their own weekly stickied post in the future.
   • before jumping into the community, we encourage you to read examples of common fallacies here.
   • if you’re asking questions about veganism, be mindful that the person on the other end is trying to be helpful by answering you and treat them with at least as much respect as they give you.
6. Posts and comments whose contents – text, images, etc. – are largely created by a generative AI model are subject to removal. We want you to be a part of the vegan community, not a multi-head attention layer running on a server farm.
7. Posts linking to Twitter/X or any similarly far-right site will be removed.
8. No brigading, either off-site or on-site. An incitement to brigade includes two elements: a call to disruptive action and a specific direction outside of this community in which to take that action. Exceptions include:
   • Calls to boycott.
   • Calls to in-person protest of a government, high-profile individual, or company/organization.
   • Votes provided they have a sufficiently broad target audience or provably effective controls against vote brigading.
   • Petitions.
9. All Lemmy.World Terms of Service also apply.

BOOBS

Welcome to Boobs, for people of all shapes and sizes to appreciate boobs of all shapes and sizes.

This is meant to be an inclusive community and sex-positive space. All boob content is welcome. We may adjust these rules in the future if things go horribly wrong.

Guidelines

1. This should be obvious, but please only post legal, authorized images or videos. These include images that were already voluntarily shared to the public, are authorized by the owner of the boobs, or are original content created by the poster. No non-consensual imagery is allowed.

2. Original content is encouraged and welcome. Please tag original content with the “[OC]” or similar tag.

3. Please keep comments and conversations civil and respectful. Any conversation done in good faith is unlikely to be moderated, but we want to be a positive community that celebrates boobs. Absolutely no harassment, hateful behavior, doxxing, privacy intrusions or revenge posts.

4. Absolutely no posts or images (even SFW that may be debatable) that sexualize actual minors.

5. This is an inclusive community. Diverse boobs are welcome, encouraged and safe here. This is not the place for anti-LGBTQ, racist, bigoted or similarly toxic comments. Please post and upvote your favorite boobs, whatever their race, creed, color, nationality, age, size, personality, composition, income bracket, favorite sports team, or job title.

6. Please stay on topic with posts. That topic, in case you forgot, is boobs. Posts may be fully nude but the focus should be boobs.

7. Please do not spam. The key word here is “spam.” This means intentionally posting low-quality, duplicative or bad faith posts. Post as much as you like while following these guidelines. Even posting a lot - as long as in good faith - won’t be an issue.

8. Sellers / content creators are welcome. Please however limit any advertisement or linking to your profile page. Please do not include links (including to your OF, TikTok, IG, etc) in the post or as a comment on your posts.

9. NSFW: Please tag your posts “NSFW.” This is a NSFW community, but we want to be a good citizen across the fediverse and not show this content to anyone who doesn’t consent to view it.

10. AI: For now please do not post AI-generated boobs here. Please respect that some people prefer not to have AI-generated content in their feeds without opting-in. Please feel free to post your AI boobs to other AI-centric NSFW communities.

Welcome to Touhou community on lemmy.world.

Touhou Project is a series of shoot 'em up games created by ZUN. This game series has fostered a vibrant and imaginative fandom, giving rise to numerous fan-made creations such as music arrangements, illustrations, manga, anime, and conventions.

The Touhou universe primarily revolves around Gensokyo. Within Gensokyo, the canon games feature recurring main characters who resolve various incidents. These characters include Reimu Hakurei, a powerful miko, and Marisa Kirisame, a human magician.

Touhou characters are predominantly female and encompass a wide array of folkloric Japanese monsters coexisting within Gensokyo.

For more comprehensive information, please visit the Touhou Wiki at en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Touhou_Wiki.

Rules

• Keep content Touhou centered

• If your post contains work of other peoples, always provide link to original author’s post or atleast author’s name.

  • If you are posting your own work, note about it, preferable by adding "[OC] " in the beginning of title. In this case link isn’t a requirement, but if you have Pixiv, Misskey, Twitter etc account, where you post your works, it’s appreciated if you provide it.
  • AI generated content have to be marked by [AI] prefix in post label

• Suggestive content is allowed if flagged NSFW. Erotica content is forbidden.

As a rule of thumb, based on safebooru.donmai.us/wiki_pages/howto%3Arate guidelines, images rated as General are allowed without flagging, Sensitive and Questionable are allowed with NSFW flagging, Explicit are forbidden.
There is a hard situation on a boundary between Sensitive and General, these will be judged in favor to the flag that this post was uploaded with, though moderators and main contributors have the final word.

FFNBPS - Female Feet Not Being the Primary Subject (aka Upvoted because feet)

Do you get turned on by apparently innocent pics of women just because they’re barefoot? But, on the other hand, explicit feet closeups, or pictures of girls eating their toes or spreading oil on their soles are not exactly your thing?

This community is for all the pictures - of female fashion models, gymnasts, swimmers, gone mild, instagram/flickr/tumblr/deviantart subjects … that are not focused on their feet, but that however show cute feet!

POSTING GUIDELINES:

Abide by the general rules of FediNSFW.
18+ Content ONLY.
No AI content.
No candids or stolen photos.
No photos where feet are the primary subject.
Ideally bare feet, but stockings, socks or anything similar are fine too.

Welcome to the feminism community on Lemmy.World!

Rules:

1. This is a feminist community, meant for discussing issues around equality and gender. Disagreement is acceptable but anti-feminist statements are not. Similarly, TERF-aligned comments, including anti-trans or other anti-LGBTQ+ sentiments are not allowed. This does not preclude debunking anti-feminist talking points.
2. Posts must be related to feminism, gender issues, or related content. Topics can include current issues/news, historical topics, personal questions/thoughts, or discussion threads. If you are unsure if your post is on-topic, feel free to message the mods before posting.
3. Memes and humor are allowed but should not be excessively posted.
4. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Utilizing such language in your username will also result in a ban.
5. Follow site-wide rules.

A place to discuss problems of car centric infrastructure or how it hurts us all. Let’s explore the bad world of Cars!

Rules

You may not agree on ideas, but please do not be needlessly rude or insulting to other people in this community.

Don’t discriminate or disparage people on the basis of sex, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, or sexuality.

Don’t follow people you disagree with into multiple threads or into PMs to insult, disparage, or otherwise attack them. And certainly don’t doxx any non-public figures.

This community is about cars, their externalities in society, car-dependency, and solutions to these.

Do not repost content that has already been posted in this community.

Moderator discretion will be used to judge reports with regard to the above rules.

Posting Guidelines

In the absence of a flair system on lemmy yet, let’s try to make it easier to scan through posts by type in here by using tags:

• [blog] for any blog-style content
• [video] for video resources
• [academic] for academic studies and sources
• [discussion] for text post questions, rants, and/or discussions
• [meme] for memes
• [image] for any non-meme images
• [misc] for anything that doesn’t fall cleanly into any of the other categories

Anime characters with adorable animal characteristics, ears, tails, fur, etc.

1. Posts must feature “kemonomimis”. That is, anime characters with animal features such as cat ears, bunny tails, paws, and so on.
2. No nudity. Lewd art is fine, but mark it NSFW.
3. If posting a more suggestive piece, or one with simply a lot of skin, consider still marking it NSFW.
4. Include a link to the artist in post body, if you can.
5. AI Generated content is not allowed.
6. Positivity only. No shitting on the art, the artists, or the fans of the art/artist.
7. Finally, all rules of the parent instance still apply, of course.

SauceNao can be used to effectively reverse search the creator of a piece, if you do not know it.

You may also leave the post body blank or mention @saucechan@ani.social, in which case the bot will attempt to find and provide the source in a comment.

Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

1. Post only links to articles. Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

2. Articles must be relevant to US politics and contain quality and original content. Social Media adjacent hosts like Substack are allowed, but ONLY if they tie back to a company/subsidiary. No personal or friend group blogs and no self-promotion. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and re-hosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
3. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing other users of being bots or paid actors.
4. No memes, trolling, misinformation, or low-effort posts/comments (including reposts). If you see posts like this that anger you, do not engage. Report, block, and live a happier life than they do. Any slap-fight is subject to comment removals. Fights full of rule violations will result in temporary bans to cool off.
5. No manipulating votes via bots or alt accounts; this will result in permanent bans. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
6. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in an account ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be permanently banned.

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules and use critical thinking when reading, posting, and commenting. Users that repeatedly have comments or posts removed, weaponize reports, or violate the code of conduct, will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users. The reason(s) behind moderator action(s) are publicly available through the Modlog.

That’s all the rules!

Someone's making decisions about your digital life without asking. Techlore helps you take them back: privacy, security, and digital rights, made simple enough for anyone. Hosted by Henry Fisher.

News community around technology, social media platforms, information technology and governmental policy surrounding it.

What doesn’t fit here?

The core of the story has to be technology focused.

• If article mentions “AI” in a sentence and then talks about business economics that doesn’t make it tech news.
• Gaming is too many layers removed from technology. There are many dedicated communities that are a better fit for it.
• Transporation is too many layers removed from technology. EVs while use many cool technologies have many dedicated communities that are a better fit for it.
• Entertainment is too many layers removed from technology. While sometimes it can fit here, business or cultural aspects of it are a better fit for dedicated communities.
• Cybersecurity. While it heavily focuses on technology, most of the time it’s too technical for most people who are not already invested in it. Should be posted in a dedicated communities unless it has broader connection to other tech areas.

Post guidelines

Post title should mirror the news source title. If you don’t like the title of article, look for an alternative source instead of editorializing it.

Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.

Opinion (op-ed) articles must use [Opinion] prefix before the title. Opinion articles refer to articles that their publisher doesn’t explictly endorse.

Country prefix can be added to the title with a separator (|, :, etc.) if the news is from a local publisher who doesn’t clearly mention the country.

Rules

Title and associated content has to be in English.

Post URL should be the original link to the article (even if paywalled) and archived copies left in the body. It allows avoiding duplicate posts when cross-posting.

All communication has to be respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.

Everyone is welcome here regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, color, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.

Any kind of personal attacks are expressly forbidden. If you can’t argue your position without attacking a person’s character, you already lost the argument.

Stay on topic. Keep it relevant.

General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don’t post to both !uk_politics@feddit.uk and !unitedkingdom@feddit.uk .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think “reputable news source” needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

Not that Meta, but meta-discussions about this site, its contents, moderation concerns, governance, etc. all go here.

Users cannot assume that any post has been vetted and must do their own investigation.

Some basic posting restrictions are in place to filter out the most egregious attempts to scam the community, without adding an insurmountable barrier to aid. Please read the comm rules below carefully before posting.

RULES:

1. All mutual aid requests must go in this community.
2. Accounts must be at least 3 months old to post mutual aid requests. Exceptions can be made with comm moderator or admin approval.
3. Accounts requesting aid must have some prior posting history on the site outside the mutual aid comm. Exceptions can be made with comm moderator or admin approval.
4. Mods do not vet individual mutual aid requests. Donate at your own risk.
5. Do not request donations for funding anything explicitly illegal.
6. Comments giving unsolicited advice will be removed. (See below)
7. Comments or posts that are critical of any mutual aid post or user will be removed. (See below)
8. Posts containing opsec leaks will be removed.

Additionally:

• If you are open to non-monetary aid please indicate so in your post

• If you wish to provide unsolicited advice/resources, then please make a separate post in this community

• Other types of non-specific meta posts about other users may be made in the !feedback@hexbear.net community

• If you have concrete evidence of something even remotely suspicious, do not hesitate to bring it to the attention of a moderator for review via direct message

• We strongly advise you ask people to send you a direct message to obtain information regarding payment to prevent inadvertent opsec leaks.

• Please consider posting once a day and editing the title of a mutual aid post to include [Covered] or [Need Met] when a request has been satisfied or goal met.

• Consider not making comments about receiving large donations, or about what that money is spent on.

Moderator Pinning Rules:

• Moderators are strictly prohibited from promoting/endorsing/pinning individual mutual aid requests (especially those of their own) as this creates unfair post visibility and could therefore benefit more from that than the standard user. Moderators caught engaging in this behavior will be swiftly removed from the moderator board with extreme prejudice.

• Moderators are allowed to pin and crosspost donation requests for large scope issues such as natural disaster relief funds and bail funds ((Example)[hexbear.net/post/16574) along with other crowd or moderator-compiled informational resources pertaining to donating or volunteering (Example), so long as the utmost due diligence is done prior to endorsement, especially in the case of directing people to donate to non-profit organizations.

• Financial documents of non-profit organizations available to the public must be heavily scrutinized before moderator endorsement, and links to those must also be included in the endorsement post to help the community make their own decision if they should donate.

Any politics anywhere in the world. Inevitably it’ll be 99% US stuff, but that’s not a rule.

This community works differently to how most politics communities work. It has strict rules designed to facilitate productive discussion. You can be rude, to a point, but you can’t participate in bad faith:

• If you claim someone said something they didn’t say, that’s a temp ban.
• If you make a factual claim but then aren’t interested in backing it up, that’s a temp ban.
• If you’re asked one or two reasonable questions about what you said, and you’re still talking but you’re pretending the questions didn’t happen or rejecting the premise of answering them, that’s a temp ban.

The idea is to make the discussion productive. Let’s see how it works. Maybe this is a fool’s errand but IDK how any set of moderation could be worse than lemmy.world.

Other misc rules:

• No unreliable sources.
• Keep it productive please.
• Self posts for discussion are fine. This includes videos or photos. No meme posts or screenshots please.
• No personal insults.
• No racism / transphobia / related bigotry.

Come talk about psychology and related disciplines.

Detailed Rules Post

1. Be civil.

2. No spam.

3. Posts are to be related to self-hosting.

4. Don’t duplicate the full text of your blog or readme if you’re providing a link.

Europe community on dbzer0. Intended to be a place to discuss European news, politics, or just general topics from a European perspective. Since this is on dbzer0 expect the community to lean more leftist-anarchist but a wide range of views are accepted here (within reason).

Rules:

Any forms of Homophobia, Transphobia, Queerphobia, Racism, or Ableism will be met with swift and harsh action and will not be tolerated here whatsoever. Bigots will be banned immediately on-sight. This includes apologia of it. Trying to be politely or intellectually bigoted i.e. “Just asking questions” won’t be tolerated.

Any forms of Zionism or Zionist rhetoric will not be tolerated here, this includes Zionist apologia, accusations of antisemitism towards anti-Zionists, or blatant denial or downplaying of the genocide towards Palestinians. Any attempt to uphold or prop up the IHRA definition of antisemitism, will be treated as Zionism. Anyone engaging in Pro-Zionist sentiment or apologia will be actioned in accordance with its severity. Claiming well proven or personally admitted actions by Zionists are “antisemitic conspiracy theories” may get you banned with content removal without warning. Apologizing for Germany’s compelled speech laws in any way here is also considered a violation as these laws uphold the IHRA definition of antisemitism. You will be banned if you apologize for Germany’s speech laws. No questions asked. Note: Trying to find loopholes or whataboutery to see what is or isn’t genocide denial or Zionism will be treated as a violation of this rule. Don’t test us.

Please maintain civil discourse in the community. Do not engage in arguments with others, name-calling, or insults. Note that calling out bigotry or Zionism is not considered an insult. In heated arguments users are encouraged to or even required to disengage failure to do so will result in mod action.

Spreading of misinformation intentionally in this community is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Spreading misinformation hurts the credibility of the community and can mislead people sometimes in dangerous ways. Users who intentionally post misinformation as articles, comment answers, or in attempt to win arguments will be actioned swiftly. Note: This includes Russian and Chinese propaganda. Users with a history of such posting will be banned on sight.

Please do not post articles or content primarily created using generative AI. Generative AI content may contain misinformation or be lower quality and thus is discouraged. Posts and comments featuring it will be removed. However this community does not allow or tolerate Anti-AI trolling or hostility and users who engage in such behavior will be actioned for it, additionally Anti-AI trolling violates Rule 3 and often Rule 4 so it is generally unacceptable already.

Note: Rules 1 & 2 may be subject to preemptive mod action due to their severity, and they apply to a user’s entire post history. Not just this community.

Harassment towards any moderators or attempts to incite attacks against mods will forfeit your right to appeals.

Some places to find content

Rules

1. Follow FediNSFW’s instance wide rules

2. All photos must be of public figures or clearly consenting individuals (i.e. they are nude)

   • Women who are public figures or are clearly consenting can be posted. What is considered clearly consenting:

     • someone wearing clearly sexually suggestive clothing like lingerie
   • BEING IN A SWIMSUIT IS NOT CONSENT
   • Photos of random women with no proof of consent will be removed
   • Multiple photos with ambiguous consent after the first warning may result in a ban
   • If you would like to provide proof that the women in the photos are consenting based on the guidelines above you can post their social(s) and/or names in the body of the post.
   • Mods and Admins will err on the side of caution with these judgements

3. No visible penises

4. Only post a single image or video. You can post extra links or pictures in the comments or in the post body
5. No AI anything
6. Be respectful of the women in the content
7. Posting original content is OK, but keep promotional links (Linktree, Snapchat, OF, Kik, Fansly, Twitter, IG, PornHub, Amazon lists, etc.) in your profile only

General Taylor Swift discussion. Welcome all Swifties!

Bring your clown hats, your wild theories, and your hype, this community is for you.

Some basic guidelines:

• Posts should be about Taylor Swift
  • "Shoehorned" articles about Taylor are considered not relevant.
• Criticism of Taylor is fine, but open trolling or low effort posts like “Her music sux” will be removed.
• Downvote trolling is actively monitored. Downvotes are enabled and welcome, but if all that you do is downvote, it will result in bans. Join the discourse, if you don’t like this community feel free to block it. Admins have the ability to see votes by user, and we use that ability here.
• General “Don’t be a dick” rules apply, no trolling, no being a jerk
• No NSFW. This is a fun Swiftie community. NSFW is banned here.
• Use the “spoiler” tag generously when it comes to Tour spoilers. Pictures and outfits are fine, but streams/setlists should be marked. (Remember while the US tour is winding down, our global Swifties are just ramping up)
  • Add [Spoiler] to your title
  • Use the spoiler text for any spoilers in comments/description (the triangle with the exclamation point)
